Young cyclists court danger

A GROUP of young daredevil cyclists are doing stunts with their modified bicycles on the busy Likas-Taman Kingfisher stretch in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

A Taman Kingfisher resident claimed the cyclists can be seen in the area regularly between the big roundabout near Wisma Innorprise and Taman Kingfisher.

They criss-crossed the road, oblivious to the cars around them, said the resident who declined to be named.

“None of them wore any safety equipment and the bikes look modified.”

She said the children looked like they were in their early teens.

Complaints have also been lodged with the Kota Kinabalu police as well as the Community Development and Consumer Affairs Ministry.

“If it is true these children are using 'basikal nyamuk' (mosquito bike), action will be taken in accordance with the law.

“Personally, I worry that this problem will become more serious if the children continue their activity (cycling dangerously and using modified bicycles,” she said.
