KUALA MUDA: A 48-year-old man was killed when the motorcycle he was riding was involved in a collision with a van along the Alor Star-Butterworth trunk road yesterday.
In the 5.50pm incident, the victim died on the spot due to internal injuries after his motorcycle collided with the van at a junction.
District police chief Zaidy Che Hassan said early investigations indicate that the crash occurred when the van unexpectedly emerged from the junction and collided with the motorcyclist.
"The motorcyclist was travelling from Padang Temusu heading towards Tikam Batu when he collided with the van while the van was exiting a junction near Taman Desa Meranti.
"Due to close proximity, the motorcyclist couldn't avoid the van and collided with the vehicle. The impact caused severe internal injuries to the motorcyclist who died on the spot," he said in a statement.
Zaidy said the victim's body was sent to Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital for post-mortem examination.
