Taking the 'easy way' at LRT station

MOTORISTS dropping or picking up passengers by the roadside are causing congestion near the Taman Melati Light Rail Transit (LRT) station in Kuala Lumpur.

Resident Tahira Manaf said such a habit created traffic problems especially during peak hours, and pinpointed the Persiaran Pertahanan area.

“The motorists think they are not harming anyone for stopping by the roadside for a short while. But there are areas designated for passengers or relatives to be picked up or dropped off.

“I don’t think these drivers are cabbies or with any e-hailing service as there are designated areas for them as well,” Tahira said.

ACTIONLINE:

A spokesman for Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) said the council monitored areas near public transport facilities for such problems.

He said there were parking spaces allocated for those picking up or dropping passengers near the LRT Taman Melati station.

“But there are motorists who tend to double park and the City Hall will take action.”
