Ling Fou-Tsong to succeed Sulaiman Mohd Tahir as AmBank Group MD

A chartered accountant, Ling, a Malaysian aged 55, brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record.

He served as the group chief financial officer from 2017, where he manages full spectrum of AmBank Group's finance, overseeing the group's financial strategy and implementation.

His in-depth commercial and financial experience covers key roles held in treasury, finance, risk management and sales in international banking institutions.

His comprehensive career portfolio transcends across corporate, investment and retail banking, treasury, risk management and financial management.

Over the course of 17 years, Ling has held leadership roles in Malaysia, the United Kingdom, and Northeast Asia.

"The board believes that Jamie's broad and extensive experience in the banking industry coupled with his strong leadership skill and vision, will further strengthen AmBank's position in the industry and propel the bank to greater heights," AmBank said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Sulaiman reached its retirement age of 60 in January earlier this year having led the banking group for eight years.

His tenure at the group saw him proficiently steer it through some of its most demanding challenges.

AmBank Group chairman Tan Sri Md Nor Yusof recorded his appreciation for Sulaiman's contribution and wished him all the best in his next endeavour.

"I had the privilege of knowing Sulaiman since the time he first started his banking career at Bank of Commerce in 1987.

"I can attest to his considerable and wide experience over more than 35 years culminating in leading the AmBank Group. This is certainly a significant value he will bring to wherever he decides to offer his service next," he added.

Sulaiman leaves behind a legacy of strategic growth, talent development and digital transformation, ultimately positioning AmBank as a competitive, award-winning financial institution serving a wide-ranging clientele.
