PKNS denies plans to demolish 47-year-old building, to file police report over fake news

KUALA LUMPUR: The Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) has denied allegations on plans to demolish the PKNS Complex in Shah Alam.

It said the 47-year-old PKNS Complex is one of the landmarks in Shah Alam which plays a significant role in providing business services and facilities to the surrounding residents.

PKNS will also lodge a police report with regards to the fake news.

"PKNS expresses regret over these unfounded allegations, which are entirely untrue. PKNS wishes to emphasise that there are no plans to demolish this complex.

"In the meantime, PKNS will lodge reports to the police and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission regarding this fake news," it said in a statement.

PKNS acknowledged that it is upgrading its properties in Section 14 as part of the urban renewal project in Shah Alam.

The upgrading is expected to kick off in the third quarter of this year.

The estimated RM2 billion project will involve several plots in the Section 14 city centre including SACC Mall and SACC Convention Centre, in which it initially did not involve the PKNS Complex building at all.

"Instead, this area will be upgraded to provide better and more comfortable facilities for tenants, as well as to provide a more satisfying experience for visitors and the local community.

"This rejuvenation project is also in line with PKNS' efforts to help making Shah Alam a zero-carbon city, with upgraded buildings using a centralised chill water system in addition to green energy systems."

PKNS added that the rejuvenation project fulfills its commitment to contributing to sustainable urban development and overall socio-economic improvement in the state of Selangor.

"Throughout this upgrading process, business operations at the PKNS Complex will continue as usual, and visitors will be free to purchase their necessities," it said.
