Volvo XC90 updated with new feel and a safer ride

KUALA LUMPUR: Volvo Car Malaysia has unveiled the updated version of its best-selling, award-winning XC90 for the 2020 model year.

The company’s large SUV gets subtle enhancements to the originally-classy exterior design, topped with upgraded kits and equipment.

Exterior wise, the new XC90 gets a new curved grill mesh as found on the S90, reprofiled lower bumper, new front lower intakes with chrome, new wider rear chrome strip and new wheel design.

Inside, the updated Sensus infotainment system supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as Spotify music streaming.

For the plug-in hybrid T8 model, the battery capacity has been improved from 10.4kWh to 11.6kWh, increasing its pure electric driving range up to 50km. The beautiful Orrefors crystal gear knob has also been redesigned.

The T5 model has gained a third-row air-conditioning with C-pillar vents, Road Sign Information System and a four-zone climate control with cooled glove box which was previously only present on the T8.

The XC90 T5 is propelled by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine making 254hp and 350Nm of torque.

The T8 on the other hand is powered by the similar engine, paired to an electric motor that gives a combined output of 407hp and 640Nm of torque.

In the safety department, the XC90 is now equipped with steering assist for both the Blind Spot Information System and City Safety (with pedestrian, cyclist and large animal recognition).

The Oncoming Lane Mitigation System that made its way to the XC60 is now available on the XC90, while Rear Cross Traffic Alert now gains autobrake function.

The refreshed Volvo XC90 comes in three variants, namely the T5, T8 Inscription and T8 inscription Plus, which are priced at RM373,888, RM399,888 and RM409,888 respectively.

Five distinct colours are available; Crystal White Pearl, Denim Blue Metallic, Onyx Black Metallic, Pebble Grey Metallic, and Thunder Grey Metallic.
