#TECH: Free courses on skills upgrade via GetEmployed.today

MANY people are affected by the pandemic up to the point of losing their jobs.

Looking at this issue, LTT Global has launched an initiative to help those who lost their jobs and income to join its free skills upgrade courses so that they can get back into the job market quickly.

Launched by The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT)'s international president, Datuk Ts Abd Radzak Abd Malek, the initiative, called GetEmployed.today, is positioned to quickly get people negatively affected by the pandemic back on their feet.

"What we are witnessing now when distributing food and groceries are unimaginable sufferings of our unemployed Malaysians first hand. Many had difficulty finding work amid pandemic-related shutdowns and, as a result, struggled to feed their families. We saw people without jobs, people living on the street, and anyone else in need and at risk of starvation. Their gratitude was expressed not in words, but in tears that spoke a thousand words," said LTT Global Communications Sdn Bhd's co-founder and chief executive officer, Dr Wemel Cumavoo, during the virtual soft launch of the GetEmployed.today.

For the programme, LTT Global partners with various universities, companies and agencies, which include the Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Multimedia University (MMU), Digitalbiz Instituition, i-Ventures, Niag@soft, Mesiniaga, EventX, H2L, PIKOM, Incitement, Parti Komedi Rakyat, Study Germany, Chamrun Digital, and SCIKEY.

Addressing the problem

As of July 2021, there are over 764,900 Unemployed Malaysians. It's estimated many more millions Malaysians will become Unemployed over the next 6 months if nothing is done to help MSMEs'.

"Therefore, we decided to step back, analysed the situation in the country, with our team and assessed our strengths, then decided that we can and need to do something about it now and that is the birth of our impact project, GetEmployed.today," said Wemel.

"The International Labour Organization recently had mentioned in one of its reports that those who lost their jobs gave up looking for work or were unavailable to work owing to the pandemic, resulting in more people leaving the labour force altogether and becoming "inactive" rather than unemployed, he added.

Based on that study, LTT Global's GetEmployed.today, impact initiative reinvents learning through a structured Employment Readiness Programme and position to quickly get people negatively affected by the pandemic back on their feet.

"Just training alone is not enough. Many have lost their self confidence, self esteem, social skills and need special attention and counseling. Our Employment Readiness Program helps one to Learn, Earn & Grow. Other features that enhance skills in this programme include mastery classes and webinars that are conducted by universities, corporates and expert individuals.

Commenting on the reason for creating GetEmployed.today, Wemel said, "it is time to make a difference. With a little help from everyone be it ministries and agencies, the education and corporate sectors, associations, NGOs' and individuals, your support is life changing and will give them renewed hope, together let's be a catalyst to reset and rebuild our Malaysian Economy," he said.

Wemel urges those affected to go for the free skill update courses on GetEmployed.today as upskiliing is the best way to get back in the workforce or even start a business.

The courses

Meanwhile, LTT Global's co-founder and chief operating officer Rani Wemel reiterated GetEmployed.today is not a job portal, but a corporate social responsibility platform to give people who are affected by the pandemic to retrain and reskill.

"As much as everyone wants to up-skill, money is the barrier and training/learning cost a lot of money and the priority for the people now is to feed their family first. While we see a rising number of Individuals and Food Banks distributing food, the next most important thing that we need to do is to up-skill and re-skill people, whereby they can quickly get employed or be a freelancer with the skills they have picked up. This will enable them to earn an income in the shortest possible time frame," she said.

"Basically, the programme targets people who got laid off because of company downsized, those who lost their jobs because businesses shut down, people who had pay cut and need to get a side income, unemployed graduates, under-employed Individuals – doing jobs below their actual experience and capabilities," she explained, adding that the programme is expected to last for one year.

"We hope to retrain and reskill up to 5,000 individuals this one year," she added.

Those who go for the GetEmployed.today courses will be trained for four to six weeks in the areas of expertise of their choice.

"We offer a vast number of industry-specific skills. Each course is hand-picked and vetted by our team of experts," she said.

"We are offering a wide selection of programme offerings. GetEmployed.today is designed to train and support individuals in a vast number of industry-specific skills. Each course is hand-picked and vetted by our team of experts. The programme is tailored to fit any and all lifestyles of busy Malaysians learners," said Rani, and by the end of the course, an assessment test will be held before a certificate is issued by The Asia Pacific University of Technology.

"We will also assist participants in getting jobs after the courses," she added.

"We would like to invite companies and individuals to come in as financial sponsors and partners to add to the success of the GetEmployed.today impact project," she said.
