Donnie Yen: 'Ip Man 4' to start filming in March next year

KUCHING: As fans wait with bated breath for 'Ip Man 4', its main star Donnie Yen is not about to reveal the storyline of the fourth installment on the famous Chinese martial arts grandmaster.

Yen, who will reprise his role as everyone's favourite hero, Ip Man, said he could only confirm that filming will begin in March next year.

"Do you want another 'Ip Man' movie?" Yen asked a packed room of reporters during a special press conference at the Old CourtHouse here today.

Also present was Assistant State Tourism Minister, Datuk Lee Kim Shin.

The star of several blockbuster martial arts movies is in Sarawak to attend the three-day, Asean International Film Festival and Awards 2017 which ends here tonight.

"Yes, there will be another 'Ip Man' movie. In fact, the filming of the movie will start in March next year," he said.

Yen however was hesitant when asked on reports suggesting that the next installment of the franchise will be an emotional journey for the main character since the grandmaster had lost his wife in 'Ip Man 3'.

"I know a bit of the guideline since the director has told me the direction of the movie.

"But I don't think it is fair or right to the audience to give out the 'inside secret' so early.

"So, I will keep it as a surprise for you guys to find out yourself." he said.

Director, Wilson Yip, who had directed the three previous 'Ip Man' movies, will return to direct 'Ip Man 4'.
