The inaugural Malaysian Film Industry Journalism Awards saw Media Prima win three trophies via Berita Harian and Harian Metro

THREE outstanding entertainment journalists from Berita Harian and Harian Metro did Media Prima Bhd proud by winning major awards in the first edition of the Malaysian Film Industry Journalism Awards.

Rozdan Mazalan of Berita Harian was one of two individuals honoured with the Journalistic Excellence Award, while another Berita Harian journalist, Raja Nurfatimah Mawar Mohamed received Best Gossip Columnist Award.

Harian Metro’s Weekend Edition editor Adam Salleh was honoured Best Entertainment Columnist for an article titled Masih Mencungap Kejar RM75 Juta (“Still Slow At Achieving RM75 Million Target”) dated Sept 13.

Adam’s article was about the film industry’s slow pace in achieving RM75 million box office collections, this year’s target which was suggested by the National Film Development Corporation.

Each of the winners received trophies, certificates and cash prizes at the two-hour awards event held at ParkRoyal Hotel, Kuala Lumpur last Friday.

Twelve awards were given out at the event organised by the National Film Development Corporation and the Entertainment Journalists’ Association of Malaysia, with the support of the Communications and Multimedia Ministry.

The awards were given out by Tengku Puteri Seri Kemala Pahang Tengku Aishah Sultan Ahmad Shah, Finas chairman Datuk Mohd Khusairi Abdul Talib and National Film Development Corporation director-general Datuk Fauzi Ayob.

Also present was Entertainment Journalists’ Association of Malaysia president Datuk Tengku Khalidah Tengku Bidin.

The winners were judged by a professional jury comprising veteran entertainment journalists and editors Akmal Abdullah, Roslen Fadzil, Fariza Saidin, Zainal Alam Kadir and Datin Sharifah Shawati Syed Mohamad.

Co-hosted by veteran actress Fauziah Ahmad Daud and comedian Abam of Bocey, presenting the awards were Datuk Rosyam Nor, Datuk Seri Shah Rezza, Datuk Seri Eizlan Yusof, Noor Kumalasari and Maya Karin.

The guests were entertained by Gegar Vaganza 2017 singer Haiza, Akademi Fantasia Megastar winner Idayu Yaakob, among others.

Mohd Khusairi said the awards was a “thank you” from the government to entertainment journalists who worked hard to uphold the well-being of the industry.

“Entertainment journalists have provided valuable feedback to the government over the years, on how to improve the Malaysian performing arts scene. They all play a vital role in the industry’s development, and indirectly nation building,” he said.
