(Showbiz) BTS, biggest winner at 27th Seoul Music Awards

KUALA LUMPUR: BTS’ winning streak continued last night when it bagged the top award at the 27th Seoul Music Awards.

This was the latest addition to a string of awards that the K-Pop group had won this awards season in South Korea, namely the Mnet Asian Music Awards last November, Melon Music Awards in December and Golden Disk Awards on Jan 11.

According to news report by Soompi, in his acceptance speech, BTS' leader RM thanked the group's fans, who call themselves Army, for their support.

"My start (in my musical career) was thanks to small things. I just liked music, I wanted to express myself, or I thought an artiste had looked cool on stage. I think that my fellow members felt the same. Those little things have brought us here today.”

RM continued, “Army, I think you may have started liking us because of small things too. Maybe you came across a video of us by chance, or you liked our music, or you thought our performance was cool. Those small reasons combined together to become this love that we don’t deserve.

"When I was working on (BTS' latest album) Love Yourself, I said that I thought it would be a turning point. Thank you to our fans who have made it such a happy, glorious, golden turning point!”

He added that the members recently discussed why they continued to perform and produce music.

“The reason at the end of the day is always about all of you. Thank you for being the reason we become performers. In return, we will become artistes who will help everyone in their lives, even if it's just a little."

The group's rapper Suga added, “It’s great to be able to start off 2018 with such a big award.

"I’ve thought a lot about our plans for this year, and they’re very simple: Create good music and come up with better performances. I promise we'll deliver! Thank you.”

Last night, BTS also took home one of the Bonsang awards, given to 12 performing acts by combining album and digital sales with online and judges' votes.

Emerging tops among the 12, BTS took home the highest honours which is similar to an Artiste of the Year award.

BTS' agency Big Hit Entertainment's chief executive officer Bang Si-hyuk was presented with the Best Producer award for being responsible for BTS' worldwide success.

Meanwhile, other winners of the Bonsang award include Nu’est W, BlackPink, Seventeen, BTOB, Twice, EXO, Bolbbalgan4, GOT7, Red Velvet, Wanna One and Super Junior.

Wanna One, Pristin, and Chungha bagged the Rookie Award, while non-attendee EXO won the Fandom School Award, and the Korean Wave Special Award.
