#Showbiz: Taeyeon of Girls' Generation has worldwide iTunes chart-topper with 'Something New'

KUALA LUMPUR: Worldwide fans of Girls’ Generation member Taeyeon are responding well to her latest release and fourth EP, titled ‘Something New.’

According to Soompi, the popular K-Pop artiste’s mini album which dropped yesterday quickly peaked at No. 1 within hours on the iTunes album charts in a dozen locations.

Fans in Chile, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Vietnam and Cambodia sure love the talented 29-year-old South Korean singer.

The six-track release of neo soul, R&B and pop songs also topped the daily sales chart for Synnara Records.

Its titled track, which has ranked high on South Korea’s local real-time music charts, came with a music video that was released yesterday as well.

Marking her first release as a solo artiste in half a year since “This Christmas” from last December, the petite singer definitely tried out something new by taking on the neo soul genre for the first time.

Foregoing the usual lyrical content focused on love or separation, the titular track featured a message of encouragement that we should all just do what we want and be the way we are.

The cinematic music video also showcased a new side to Taeyeon in an action adventure romp that sees the K-Pop star as a femme fatale who takes on several adversaries in a brawl that also involves hammers.

It ends with the petite singer shooting up a series of money-filled suitcases thrown off a cliff side before running off into the ocean.

Uploaded to the SMTown YouTube channel online, the music video has already garnered over 2 million views so far.
