#Showbiz: Singer Syafeek wins i-Sing World 2018

KUALA LUMPUR: Taking on the challenging tune of Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza’s Kau Kekasihku, Syafeek Ikhwan did the nation proud when he won i-Sing World 2018 in Paris, France yesterday.

The 30-year-pls singer beat 43 international contestants to win RM10,333.50 (US$2,500), a trophy and an air ticket to Spain, to perform at the finals of i-Sing World 2019.

“My biggest challenge was to adapt to the time differences between Malaysia and France. I had to get used to the jetlag, which lasted a day, after I landed in Paris.

“The contest took place from 1am to 5am, Malaysian time, and every one of my competitors gave a strong challenge,” he said in a news report today.

Syafeek said all the contestants had to enter three qualification rounds, before the top 18 were announced for the finals.

In the first round, Syafeek sang a French song Je Suis Malade, made popular by Lara Fabian, and in the second, he performed Datuk Sudirman Arshad’s Salam Terakhir. Frank Sinatra’s My Way was his song in the third round.

Syafeek thanked all individuals and corporations who have assisted him financially to travel to Paris for the finals.

He had earlier won i-Sing Malaysia 2018 on July 30 and received RM1,000 as the top prize.
