#Showbiz: BlackPink is on the way

The K-Pop outfit’s first concert here is after its Japan and South Korea concerts

THE four girls of popular K-Pop outfit BlackPink will be entertaining local fans, fondly dubbed Blinks, during the group’s first ever concert in Malaysia on Feb 23 and 24.

So get ready to groove to the group’s sensational hits such as Boombayah, Playing With Fire, Really, See U Later, Whistle, Stay and Ddu-Du Ddu-Du. This exciting stop will be part of BlackPink’s first world tour, hot on the heels of its previous Japan Arena Tour and Seoul Arena Tour.

Titled BlackPink 2019 World Tour (In Your Area), the hot quartet, made up of Jennie, Lisa, Jisoo and Rose had already rocked Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines and Singapore.

The revolutionary South Korean super girl group’s In Your Area Kuala Lumpur concerts are presented by Kia Motors, which announced the partnership with BlackPink for their 2019 World Tour earlier this month.

Blinks in Kuala Lumpur can look forward to a whole line-up of exciting activities Kia Malaysia has in store, starting with the Kia Malaysia x BlackPink Valentine’s Day Contest where two lucky winners will score the experience of a lifetime just in time for Valentine’s Day ­— a pair of Red Zone concert tickets and exclusive Sound Check and Send-Off passes each to meet Jennie, Jisoo, Rose and Lisa up-close! To enter, just test drive any Kia car at Kia showrooms, snap a photo and upload it on either Facebook or Instagram with the hashtag #KiaMalaysiaBLACKPINK to be in the running! (Social media page must be set to ‘Public’. Other terms and conditions apply).

This contest is open to all Malaysians and is valid from Feb 1 to 17.

Kia Malaysia will also be showcasing a booth at the concert grounds where Blinks can stand a chance to win exclusive BlackPink autographed CDs! All you need to do is show off your best BlackPink-inspired dance choreography or carpool karaoke skill to your favourite BlackPink songs, and post a video or photo of it on Facebook or Instagram with the official hashtag #MovewithKiaMalaysia to be noticed*!

HEARTTHROB AT BOOTH

Malaysian heartthrob Alvin Chong will also make an appearance at the Kia booth on Feb 24 from 3pm before BlackPink’s performance starts. Fans attending the concert will get the opportunity to meet Chong in person for a selfie or two!

The partnership between Kia Motors Corporation and BlackPink marks the first of many K-pop collaborations to be announced in 2019 by the Korean automotive manufacturer aimed at establishing a closer connection with the younger generation through a new K-Pop-inspired outreach campaign.

BlackPink 2019 World Tour (In Your Area) Kuala Lumpur will be held at the Malawati Indoor Stadium in Shah Alam.

BlackPink, which is under YG Entertainment, will be heading to Taiwan next, before embarking on its European leg of the tour which will see the group performing in the Netherlands, England, Germany, Spain and France.

Get your K-Pop on with The Show!

FANS of K-Pop can get their favourite groups and artistes on The Show. Now in its sixth season, the variety music show, which is a weekly series aired live from Seoul, comes exclusively to viewers in the Southeast Asian region via MTV Asia.

Hosted by Jang Ye-eun from CLC and Jeno from NCT and subtitled in English, it allows fans to be in tune with what’s hot in K-Pop. Also featured are performances by the latest chart-toppers and behind the scenes footage of K-Pop artistes.

The Show is aired simultaneously here and in South Korea and local viewers can also be part of the global fan voting process.

“Proud and excited to be the first in Southeast Asia to premiere The Show, we truly believe this is the answer to our fans’ call for all things K-pop. If there’s one thing a K-pop fan needs to tune in to, this is it!” said Abhishek K. Rao, senior director, MTV Brand, Southeast Asia, in a statement.

A unique segment of The Show is its The Show Choice element, a global and real-time voting system where adoring fans can play a part in choosing their top idols via the Starpass app (the idol fandom app is available for download on the Google Play Store and the iTunes App Store).

Fans are able to vote before the show and even during the live segments. Past K-Pop groups that have appeared on The Show include hot acts such as Wanna One, IZ*ONE, Monsta X, NCT and Red Velvet.
