#Showbiz: BlackPink helps cushion sex scandal laden YG Entertainment?

KUALA LUMPUR: Fans of popular K-Pop group BlackPink rejoiced recently when news that their favourite South Korean girl group would be making its comeback at the end of the month.

According to Allkpop, the music sensation’s agency, YG Entertainment, had confirmed the news in a Daily News brief last Sunday.

The company’s CEO Yang Hyun Suk had said: “They will make a comeback with a new EP (mini album) with many new songs for the fans.” It was revealed that the quartet would be shooting its new music video sometime this week as well. This will mark BlackPink’s first comeback in nine months since releasing its megahit single Ddu-Du Ddu-Du.

The good news might have also helped to somewhat allay the troubles that the group’s agency has been going through recently.

It was reported that YG Entertainment’s stocks had plunged quite a bit on March 11 after news of a sex scandal involving BigBang member Seungri had blown up worldwide.

Apparently, shareholders and civic groups had also threatened legal action against Yang Hyun Suk.

According to Koreaboo, YG’s stock had recently climbed up a little by 2.10 per cent just after the announcement by the CEO that BlackPink would be making its comeback at the end of March.

Whatever the case, BlackPink has been busy with promotions in the US, which included performances on Good Morning America and The Late Show With Steven Colbert.

Next month will also see the girls performing at Coachella, before embarking on the North American and European legs of the music outfit’s world tour.

Koreaboo also reported that fans of BlackPink, or Blinks as they’re known, can also look forward to a possible collaboration between the South Korean music sensation and British girl group Little Mix sometime in the future.

The connection was first made last January when a fan of Little Mix asked one of its members, Jade, which girl group she would like to work with online.

Jade had apparently replied: “A BlackPink collab would be pretty amazing.” When prodded on the matter once more during a recent radio interview, Jade said: “We all agree that it would be an amazing collab. It would be a bit of a dream team, for two of the biggest girl bands to have a song together! We think they’re amazing, so maybe one day if they wanna do it.”
