#Showbiz: BlackPink dedicates 'Stay' to Manchester bombing victims and families

KUALA LUMPUR: Red hot K-Pop girl group BlackPink has been having great success so far on its (In Your Area) world tour.

The talented quartet is currently on its European leg of the tour and performed on Tuesday at the Manchester Arena in England.

According to Koreaboo, the music group, comprising of Jisoo, Jennie, Rose and Lisa, captivated its fans, or Blinks who came dressed in black and pink, with an energetic performance and charismatic stage presence.

But what made the concert special was the part where the girls dedicated their 2016 folk-pop hit single, Stay, to the victims and families of a tragic event that happened there two years ago.

On May 22, 2017, a suicide bomber killed 22 people and injured 500 others at the end of an Ariana Grande concert during her Dangerous Woman Tour.

Manchester Arena is known to have the highest seating capacity of any indoor venue in the United Kingdom at 21,000 seats.

Apparently Rose had said: “The next song is dedicated to the victims of the accident that happened at this venue two years ago. Please sing along.”

The girls also removed their recent super hit single Ddu-Du-Ddu-Du from their set list, due to its association with the image of firing a gun during the chorus as seen from the track’s music video.

Another nice touch by the girls, who wanted to make sure that everyone had fun without anyone feeling uncomfortable, was the change in the lyrics of their 2016 hip hop tune, Whistle, from “blow up” to “glow up”.

BlackPink also rocked fans at Wembley Arena yesterday. The popular music group from YG Entertainment will be heading to Germany, France and Spain next before continuing with Macao, Australia, Thailand and finally Japan to wrap up the world tour.
