THE Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra will once again let its hair down and rock the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas this weekend with an edgy concert that features not one but three local rockers.
Led by Ahmad Muriz Che Rose, the MPO will provide solid backing to Datuk Hattan, Azlan Typewriter and Hazama, who are no strangers to delivering moving performances, powerful vocals and exciting stage presence.
Themed Rock Tri-O, music fans can expect a variety of classic rock songs from local and international artistes.
Hard-hitting tracks like Fantasia Bulan Madu, Memburu Rindu, Biso Bonar, Lagu Untukmu, Gerhana, Relakan Jiwa, Tiada Lagi Kidungmu, Pawana, Bohemian Rhapsody, Back In Black and Stairway To Heaven are part of the repertoire.
They'll be arranged and given fresh symphonic interpretations by Luqman Aziz, Jenny Chin, Genervie Kam and Leonard Yap.
During a recent meet with the artistes, Ahmad Muriz said: "We've done rock-themed concerts before but this is the first where we feature a spread of different rock tunes over the ages. Classics from Search and Wings to ACDC, Led Zeppelin and Queen. So there's something for everyone."
He added: "The MPO will provide a different approach to the songs and fans of these three great singers will also get to experience a different side to them which is exciting."
The concert marks the first time rock stars Datuk Hattan, Hazama and Azlan Typewriter will be stepping on stage at the DFP and all are psyched to give their best.
"It's an honour to be invited to perform at this prestigious and classy venue. This will be one of the highlights of my career," said Hattan, a long-standing artiste with 11 studio albums under his creative belt.
Fantasia 9 winner, Hazama, added: "It's really a challenge to perform with the MPO but it's one that will elevate my skills and experience as an artiste. It's the next step."
"It feels surreal to be chosen but I'm positive we'll all have fun together on stage and more importantly the audience will be entertained too," said Azlan Typewriter, former vocalist of Meet Uncle Hussain and a Juara Lagu 2008 winner.
Ahmad Muriz added: "They are special in their own realms and after much consideration they were the best to carry the repertoire."
Each rocker will get about four solo songs and medley tunes that all three will perform together, in addition to a few instrumentals.
