PETALING JAYA: The producers of the upcoming film Mahathir: The Journey plan to come up with a theme song, with lyrics voicing Tun Dr Siti Hasmah’s feelings towards her beloved husband, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“We haven’t finalised this yet, but we are hoping to come up with a killer song to accompany this story about our formidable statesman,” said film director Prof Dr Hatta Azad Khan in an interview at the film set of the biopic at Sheraton Petaling Jaya Hotel, here yesterday.
Hatta added that since the lyrics would reflect Dr Siti Hasmah’s perspective, it would only be natural that the song be performed by a female singer.
“And we feel that it would be perfect if the job goes to the country’s No. 1 singer. However we have yet to discuss our intention with her,” hinted Hatta who did not name the artiste whom the production had in mind.
For the uninitiated, Malaysia’s No. 1 singer is always referred to songstress Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin.
Hatta also said that while the lyrics were by prolific and award-winning lyricist Habsah Hassan, they were in the midst of seeking for a composer for the melody.
“If all go well, it will be ready by end of next month,” he said, adding that Mahathir: The Journey is set for a July release.
The cast and crew will be heading to Langkawi, Kelantan and Japan soon to film the rest of the scenes.
