#Showbiz: Romantic bliss with Awie at 25th anniversary show

SHAH ALAM: Malaysia's iconic rocker Datuk Awie proved that he is still a musical force to be reckoned with during Konsert Awie Romantika at Stadium Malawati here, last night.

The two-hour-plus concert, in celebration of his 25th anniversary as a solo artiste, saw the 51-year-old rocker thrilling 7,000 fans with his soaring vocals, comedic charm and romance-laden presentation.

"Love is blind but understanding and trust are very hard to find. Nevertheless, that's what we seek out, it's crazy," said the versatile star, who is also an actor, comedian and TV host.

Following a romantic theme with theatrical and musical elements, Awie performed a slew of his evergreen classics from Tragedi Oktober, Ukiran Jiwa, Di Bayang Awan and Ratuku, to Di Penjara Janji, Alif Ba Ta Duniaku and Permainan Duniawi.

Backed by an energetic 11-piece band, the former frontman of legendary rock group Wings, whose real name is Ahmad Azhar Othman, took the audience down memory lane with his songs that were given fresh arrangements.

Covering the ups and downs of a romantic relationship, from first love to heartbreak and what lies beyond, the concert also featured special guest artiste Erra Fazira as his onstage love interest.

The last time Awie had a solo show was back in 1995 with Konsert Awie Live Unplugged in Live Centre KL.

He added: "It's great to be here and thank you very much for staying with me on my musical journey. You're the best!"

Konsert Awie Romantika was organised by Atirox Ltd and IK Global Berhad.
