#Showbiz: BlackPink's YG Ent to debut new girl group?

KUALA LUMPUR: Rumours circulating online that South Korean agency YG Entertainment will be introducing a new K-Pop girl group later this year are apparently true.

According to Koreaboo, an exclusive report from SpotvNews revealed that the agency, which managed some of K-Pop's most popular group's such as BlackPink, BigBang, Winner and iKon, had been preparing this project with the aim of debuting the fresh music outfit during the second half of 2020.

The project will also run in tandem with the company’s preparations for the release of new material from BlackPink.

Previously, rumours had teased on the revealing of a new “monster rookie” and that YG was already finalising the selection of its members who had signed formal contracts with the company.

Apparently, the agency is also set to debut a 12-member boy group dubbed Treasure this year.

So far, BlackPink represents YG’s only female music outfit in its large stable of artistes and industry insiders are naturally curious to see if the company can produce another immensely popular and global girl group.

Some had speculated that the new female group would be called Baby Monsters after it became known that the moniker had been registered as a trademark by YG.

Following the numerous reports and speculations, YG had recently released a brief statement on the matter.

It read: “It is true that we are planning to debut a new girl group. We will provide more details later with our official statement. Right now, we are focusing on preparing BlackPink and Winner’s new albums.”
