#Showbiz: FFM31 is off, new dates to be announced

KUALA LUMPUR: In the wake of Covid-19 pandemic, the 31st Malaysian Film Festival (FFM31) which was scheduled to take place from April 9 to 18 has been postponed to a later date.

According to a statement released by the National Film Development Corporation (Finas) today, this decision is in line with the Restricted Movement Order announced by the Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin last night which included a ban on all mass gatherings for religious, sport, social and cultural activities.

While the order will be in effect for two weeks beginning tomorrow, Finas is not taking any chances by carrying on with the festival, despite its original date is way after the two-week order period.

“We will come up with new dates for the film festival. It would largely depend on the stituation at the time,” said a source from Finas.

Meanwhile, its chairman Datuk Hans Isaac said that once the new dates had been decided, the opening ceremony for FFM31 would remain in Kuala Lumpur.

However, the original plan to have the main award ceremony in Melaka is now shelved. It will be held in the Klang Valley instead.
