#Showbiz: Altimet resigns from Recording Performers Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Singer-songwriter Altimet has resigned as a board member of Recording Performers Malaysia (RPM) effective today.

The 42-year-old artiste whose real name is Syed Ahmad Syed Abdul Rahman Alhadad said that he had made his decision known to RPM chairperson Datuk Sheila Majid and the other three board members — Jaclyn Victor, Ana Raffali and Aniu.

"My time as a board member for RPM is up. There's nothing more for me to contribute further to this organisation.

"Rather than making it worse or no longer be of any use here, it's better for me to make my exit now, and allow other more capable person to replace me," he said in a news report today.

It is believed that the decision for his resignation stemmed from his disappointment after his efforts to set up a meeting to discuss music royalty issue between Karyawan president Datuk Freddie Fernandez and RPM's Board of Directors was rejected.

Altimet said that everyone had good intentions and only wanted the best for those in the music industry. It's just that sometimes our standpoint differs.

He said that he only wanted to give his best to RPM but his proposal was not agreeable by the rest.

Altimet said that his focus had always been to see that his five to 10 year plan panned out.

"I won't be able to make the necessary preparations, and at the same time be an effective board member," he said.
