#Showbiz: Caprice sets up fund to help pay burger seller's RM50k fine

KUALA LUMPUR: Hip-hop singer, author and motivational speaker Caprice is lending burger seller Wan Mohd Faisal Wan Kadir a much-needed helping hand.

Caprice, whose real name is Ariz Ramli, said that he had contacted Wan Mohd Faisal and sought his permission to set up a special Netizens' fund to help him pay the RM50,000 fine slapped on him by Kelantan police last Sunday.

"I'm setting up a public fund to help Faisal settle his compound, which he has to pay before May 9 (five days before Hari Raya Aidilfitri). Let's all help him, kita jaga kita!" said Caprice in an Instagram post today.

Netizens hailed Caprice as a caring citizen who helped the less fortunate, and assured him that they too would help Wan Mohd Faisal as best as they could.

Wan Mohd Faisal, 38, has been fined for operating beyond Movement Control Order (MCO) hours in Kota Baru.

He was served with the fine while preparing food for his final customers for the day around 11pm. Stall operators are supposed to close their premises at 10pm daily.

Wan Mohd Faisal claimed that there were no customers around when the policemen arrived. He also said that since the MCO came into effect, he had only accepted orders for takeaways.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Shafien Mamat said that Wan Mohd Faisal had flouted the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) during the MCO several times.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said that compounds under the Emergency (Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases) (Amendment) Ordinance 2021 have to be issued according to the guidelines set by the government.

Based on these guidelines, licence holders or premise owners who fail to follow rules related to operating hours for their businesses get a maximum compound of RM10,000.
