#Showbiz: 'I'm no longer suited for singing competitions' - Fazley Yaakob

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Fazley Yaakob has decided to call it quits on participating in singing contests, following his exit from Astro's Gegar Vaganza 8 (GV8).

The 43-year-old celebrity chef, singer, actor and motivational speaker however said that he had no regrets trying his luck in the popular reality show and getting eliminated in its fourth week.

"I have realised that I am no longer cut out for competitions like GV. Contestants are very competitive these days, and they are in great shape compared to me," he said in a news report today.

Fazley added that while he still enjoyed singing, it was better for him to record songs in the studio.

"I am more of a recording artiste than a performing artiste. In the studio, errors can always be rectified," he said, adding that GV8 was his first and last competition.

"Actually, it was my sons who encouraged me to try my luck in GV8. And while I got eliminated pretty early in the competition, I am happy that I did my best singing Mahligai Syahdu by Datuk Hattan, earning praise from the judges especially Datuk Syafinaz Selamat."

Fazley said that he initially thought he would be the first contestant to be eliminated as his previous performance was "not his best".

A total of 13 contestants, both solo artistes and groups, joined GV8 which began on Nov 21.

Besides Fazley, others participating in the show include Nikki Palikat, Shidee, Nico G, Suki Low, Azzan Scan, Upiak Isil, Ani Mayuni, Aweera, Aliff Aziz, Bandi Amuk, Saiful Apek and Yassin and Adibah Noor.

Nico became the first contestant to be eliminated, followed by Fazley.

The 10-week GV8 is broadcast live from the Putrajaya International Convention Centre at 9pm on Sundays.
