#Showbiz: Shamaine Othman to stage solo stand-up comedy next month

KUALA LUMPUR: Multi-hyphenate writer-actor-director-producer-comedienne Shamaine Othman is coming up with a solo stand-up comedy on Oct 12.

The 39-year-old artiste has announced that her gig, titled Oh No She Didn't!, will be held at Damansara Performing Arts Centre (DPAC) in Damansara Perdana, Petaling Jaya.

With an impressive 10 years experience of doing stand-up comedy in the region, Shamaine decided that it is time for her to do a solo show.

Shamaine is known for her award-winning work Projek Disko Baldi, a series of sketch comedy that started on stage but gained massive attention when it was turned into a TV show.

"I've been involved in the arts industry for as long as I can remember. I've written shows on many genres — thriller, horror, biographies but comedy will always have a special place in my heart.

"So it's time for me to take centrestage and be my own headline.

"Oh No She Didn't! is a one-woman show with themes embracing the life of a single woman at 39 and the messiness that comes with being a Malaysian in this day and age," she explained in a press statement today.

The show is produced by Cinematic Sdn Bhd, a company which she took over from her father, renowned film director Othman Hafsham.

Tickets, priced at RM80, are already on sale at www.shamaineothman.com.
