KUALA LUMPUR: Popular singer-songwriter Shila Amzah has just released a single recounting her feelings of emptiness after walking out from her four-year marriage that ended in a divorce in February.
Titled Jauh Hati, she said she wrote it a day before she actually left the house with their son, Seth Uwais, 3.
"The night before I left him, I was doing some grocery shopping when a feeling of emptiness set in. I realised that there's always this void in my marriage.
"Before I knew it, tears started rolling down my cheeks," she told reporters at the launch of Jauh Hati music video at Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur today.
Shila, 32, said, when she got home and in the still of the night, she came up with the lyrics and managed to compose Jauh Hati in 20 minutes.
However, since then, she said she could not find a suitable time to record and release the song until recently.
"As I wanted to be a 'moving on' song, I wanted it to be released before 2023 kicks in," shared Shila who wanted to start the new year with a clean slate.
So she recorded the single in August and released it earlier this month.
The music video is directed by her good friend singer-songwriter Amylea Azizan, who symbolically dramatised her experience of feeling trapped and burdened by the unhappy marriage.
Shila tied the knot with Haris Idraki Elias in April of 2018.
