#Showbiz: Music labels clamour to sign BlackPink members

KUALA LUMPUR: K-Pop queens BlackPink, whose contracts with YG Entertainment supposedly ended in August, have negotiated a temporary extension while working on their new contracts.

Hong Kong entertainment portal JayneStars reported yesterday that, although YG Entertainment has not made any statement about BlackPink's next steps, much depends on the move of their youngest member, Lisa, who hails from Thailand.

JayneStars revealed that many music labels were hoping to sign BlackPink as they are YG's highest-earning group.

Lisa has received an offer from a Thai company for US$50 million (RM237 million) and her market value is estimated to be over US$80 million (RM379 million).

It seems unlikely that Lisa will renew her contract with YG, as her recent participation in Crazy Horse has received negative feedback.

At present, YG is hopeful that the members will sign with other companies individually but stay together as a group with YG to continue BlackPink's activities.

Rose is likely being pursued by Columbia Records. She was sighted meeting with Columbia Records' CEO, Ron Perry, at a coffee shop in the United States.

Perry has followed the social accounts of the four BlackPink members Rose, Jennie, Jisoo and Lisa.

As a result, many fans have speculated that Columbia Records is likely to sign BlackPink to its label, which already includes popular divas Adele and Beyonce.
