#Showbiz: Yuna entertains her largest Malaysian crowd of 4,000 at Mega Star Arena

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians have waited five years to see United States-based singer-songwriter Yuna perform live on home soil and she finally arrived yesterday.

Yuna's two-hour concert Yunaverse held at the Mega Star Arena in Sungei Wang Plaza, Jalan Sultan Ismail at 8.30pm saw her deliver an electrifying performance that left the 4,000 crowd, her largest to date, spellbound.

She performed 24 of her hits including chart-toppers Deeper Conversation, Bad Intentions, Decorate, Terukir Di Bintang and Dan Sebenarnya, and connected with fans throughout the evening.

Her interactions and personal anecdotes made everyone feel like part of a big, musical family as well as part of her journey as a world famous singer-songwriter.

The concert presented by MSC Entertainment and Nasty Inc boasted stylish graphics and lighting, creating a stunning atmosphere that completed Yuna's voice, music and awesome dance moves.

Nasty Inc director Munas Van Boonstra said: "Yunaverse has been a labour of love for us. We are grateful for the support of fans, who queued up as early as 4pm outside the concert hall."

He added: "During the pandemic, we planned which artistes to promote for a great big stage. Yuna was no doubt the first choice. She amazes us continuously with her professionalism, sweetness and humility."

Van Boonstra said Yuna told them that she had been planning Yunaverse for a while, and she was delighted to have it finally take place in Kuala Lumpur.

Yuna said: "I was blown away by the energy of the crowd. Kuala Lumpur really showed up for me. My team and I worked very hard putting together this concert and we really wanted to give the best show, so I want to thank everyone who came."

She added: "I also wanted to share with Malaysians the show I that I would typically have when I go on tour, so it was a dream come true to be able perform with a full production with added touches like visuals and lights."

The concert also featured singer-songwriter Aizat Amdan or Ai.Z as the opening act. Aizat displayed his edgier side with his hit songs The Last Thing and Don't Need You featuring Kenny.

He expressed his concern over the situation in Palestine and urged Malaysians to do their best in helping the Palestinians.

Aizat said: "I'm grateful for the opportunity to perform with my best friend Yuna. This venue is amazing and the crowd showed so much love."

Yuna will be meeting and greeting fans at Connexion Conference And Event Centre in Bangsar South at 10am on Sunday.

The event titled Healing With Yuna will see her perform her songs acoustic style and give away prizes to fans who participate in the Yuna Trivia Quiz.

Everyone attending will receive a signed Yuna poster and Nescafe Gold Coffee.
