#Showbiz: A series of 'firsts' for Farid in 'Baran'

ACTOR Farid Kamil is excited to be starring in a new horror movie directed by Joel Soh, titled 'Baran'.

The 42-year-old artiste said it was a dream come true since the film provided him with several first-time experiences.

One was the use of makeup effects expertise from abroad for him to bring his character to life. He said it was a long and thorough process.

"I was taken to Thailand for a special makeup effect process on several parts of my body.

"There were three Malaysian actors involved in the production of the special effects using latex.

"I was there for two days and it took a whole day for the mould of my body to be produced.

"The expertise is not yet available in Malaysia, so I had to go there," he said.

Farid explained that he was happy for the eye-opening experience.

He added that it was not easy to get the services of the team because it was a speciality that was is in high demand in international productions.

"That is also the reason why the filming process will carry on until July.

"The schedule needs to be coordinated with that of the Thai makeup special effects team who are also involved with other Hollywood films," he said.

'Baran' also caught Farid's eye for its lead character, which he was excited to portray.

"It's the first time I'll act in a horror genre movie as the main character.

"Previously, I had only appeared in horror movies as a supporting character.

"The difference with this movie is also significant in terms of location, storyline and the special effects.

"There are many scenes that I have never been done before so it's exciting," he said.

What makes 'Baran' even more special is that this horror movie also sees the two lead roles being played by him and his wife, Diana Danielle.

Farid admitted that it was difficult to find a film that the two would agree on, but 'Baran' was the right project for them.

"Actually, we were looking for a suitable film that would be great for us as husband and wife.

"When I got the offer, I found the script was different from others.

"Then when I found out about being paired with Diana — it was great since it would be a new thing that we could explore together.

"So I finally agreed to work on a film that I had been looking forward to for a long time now," he said.

Farid added that he was excited to be involved with Diana on the film as they could focus on bringing their characters to life.

"There have been offers for both of us to act in the same film, but we would not have scenes together.

"This time it's different, we do have many scenes together and we are playing the onscreen roles of husband and wife," he said.

Without wanting to reveal too much about the film at this time, Farid added: "It's great to be together in this. But it's a very challenging film."
