KUALA LUMPUR: PKR, DAP and Parti Amanah Negara have formed a new pact, called Pakatan Harapan, to replace the now-defunct Pakatan Rakyat.
Opposition leader and PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, in making the announcement, said the pact was still in the midst of fine-tuning.
"We have a secretariat to look into this matter. Among the things that will be discussed is the common policies that would shape our grounds.
"We understand the need to have this coalition. We are not going to sugarcoat it that we had differences in the past, but this time around we will make it better," said Dr Wan Azizah at a Press conference today.
The decision was made at an earlier roundtable meeting between opposition leaders and several non-governmental organisations as observers.
On Pas' absence from the new pact, Dr Wan Azizah said the doors are still open for the Islamic party to join the fold.
"Yes, as long as they are in the opposition, we welcome them."
Also present was DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu.
Meanwhile, Pas will continue working with PKR in Pakatan Rakyat as decided in the Islamic party's muktamar.
Its deputy president, Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said Pas would maintain its ties with the opposition party and fight for the people in opposing against corruption and misuse of public funds.
“(However) there is no cooperation between Pas and DAP or even Amanah (Parti Amanah Negara).
“Pas appreciates PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail's invitation to the round table discussion, but Pas has decided not to attend it,” he said in the party's mouthpiece, Harakahdaily, today.
