No-car ruling at park

MUAR: The Municipal Council here has introduced a 2-in-1 programme at the Tanjung Ketapang recreation park near the mouth of the Muar river.

It has imposed a no-entry for all vehicles into the park with immediate effect. All visitors and tourists have to park their vehicles at stipulated bays and walk into the park which feature monkeys.

Council president Ramlee Abdul Rahman said the local council had conducted a study and the no-entry ruling for cars would enable families to enjoy their time at the park.

Ramlee said the children could have a closer look at the monkeys, monitor lizards and other reptiles at the mangrove swamps in the area.

Singaporean businessman Tommy Song, 34, who was there with his wife, Nancy, and two children, said the local council had made the right move.

He said this would enable his children to run about freely and play with the primates.

However, Sulaiman Hasan, 52, a technician from Negri Sembilan, expressed discontent at not being able to drive in with his family of five.

Sulaiman said his mother was unable to walk due to old age.

Robert Tan, 48, his wife and three children, who came from Malacca, said that there should be more food courts and toilets in the area.

He said the family wasted too much time looking for food and the washroom during their visit. By Chong Chee Seong
