SHOWBIZ: Smart collaboration

TELEMOVIE Selamat Pagi Cikgu, directed by Azeli Mohamad, completed its filming in Sabah recently. The joint effort between North Borneo Media and Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) in Kota Kinabalu, is about a fresh graduate who becomes a teacher in rural Sabah after failing to secure other job offers. He ends up enjoying his new life.

Actor Zahiril Adzim starred as the teacher with supporting roles played by the university students, alumni and staff. Filming took place in several locations in the west coast of Sabah such as Kampung Limau-Limauan in Kudat, Putatan and Menggatal.

North Borneo Media production manager Alinah Osman said that the collaboration was a win-win situation. “Most of the students and alumni were majoring in creative arts such as theatre, writing and dancing,” she said, adding that the opportunity gave the students the experience of working in a local production.

The original story and script came from UMS lecturer Dr Zairul Anuar Md Dawam and Associate Prof Dr Rohani Yousoff.

Zahiril said the telemovie is expected to be released later this year.

Selamat Pagi Cikgu is a second production that sees the participation of UMS students. The first is a documentary, Sunduk Omadal in 2012.
