Jalan Imbi road collapse area to reopen by October

KUALA LUMPUR: Jalan Pudu intersection which was closed due to road collapse recently will be reopened by end of October.

Kuala Lumpur Datuk Bandar, Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal Talib said the reopening of the roads would be in stages, depending on the status of the repairs.

“The structure there is not worrying, and we have in fact, strengthened it with concrete piling,” he said after visiting the site.

He added that based on safety factors, the underground construction would be done through the open-cut system and not through micro-tunneling which was used previously.

He said if the project went smoothly, the construction of the tunnel would be completed by year-end.

On July 2, part of the underground tunnel at the Jalan Imbi four-road intersection collapsed five metres deep after the soil sank, possibly as a result of a burst underground pipe.

Following the incident, the KL Monorail service from the Hang Tuah station to Imbi station was temporarily stopped as the road collapse was close to the Monorail pillar in Jalan Imbi.
