SHAH ALAM: Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim expressed remorse over the continuous political banter in the state during the most sacred month in the Muslim calendar Ramadan where Muslims were supposed to be occupied with acts of worship instead of concerning themselves with wordly distraction.
“I want to apologize to all residents in Selangor and those involved with the continuous political conflict in the state which has distracted many from performing their best during the blessed month of Ramadan.
“I admit that the people in Selangor must have feel confused and disturbed when they were forcefully dragged into this issue especially when it intensified during the last 10 days of Ramadan.
“With the coming of Aidilfitri celebration, I urge the people to set aside differences and celebrate the festivity in peace and prosperity,” he said.
Khalid also took the time to thank PAS spiritual leader Datuk Seri Nik Aziz Nik Mat for his support and words of wisdom for Khalid in light of recent attempts to forcefully remove him from the menteri besar post.
“I am grateful for the support by Nik Aziz and Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob for me in this difficult time,” he said.
Khalid added that the recent turmoil has inspired him to perform better as the menteri besar and live up to the expectations and promises made to the people who supported him.
In the political maneuvering by PKR to stripped Khalid from his menteri besar post and hand the post to its president Datin Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, the two other political parties in Pakatan were left divided.
PAS Selangor had from the day Wan Azizah was announced to be PKR’s candidate had voiced out concerns and rejection over the proposal.
PAS Selangor’s concern was eventually echoed by the party’s president Datuk Seri Hadi Awang and spiritual leader, Nik Aziz.
Despite so, its deputy president Mat Sabu had expressed support for the candidacy of Wan Azizah and downplayed previous statements from the party’s leadership, showing the existence of a fraction in the party in the issue of Selangor menteri besar.
