Suspected child abuse toddler dies

PETALING JAYA: A toddler who was in a coma after suffering serious head injury in an incident suspected to be a child abuse case on Aug 8, died at the Sungai Buloh Hospital here this morning.

Nurain Damia Mohd Naqudden, 14-month-old, succumbed to her injury without regaining consciousness about 8.20am.

The victim's uncle Mohd Helmi Zakaria when contacted at 1.30pm said a post mortem is being conducted on her body.

The family expected to bring Nurain Damia's body to the Kayu Ara mosque here for a final prayer, and to the Bukit Kiara cemetery for burial, before Asar prayer today.

It was reported that Nurain Damia was rushed to the hospital in the evening of Aug 8, after she suffered injury to her head at her babysitter's house in Flora Damansara here.

The babysitter, a local woman in her 30s, claimed that the victim sustained the injury in a fall incident.   Police have detained the woman a day after the incident to facilitate investigations.

It was also reported that doctors, who tried to remove blood clot in the victim's head on the night she was admitted, could not proceed with the surgery procedure as a blood vessel in her head was swollen.
