Police nab man wanted for break-ins, armed robberies

KOTA KINABALU: The police have detained a man in connection with a spate of house break-ins and armed robberies here since December last year.

The 31-year-old suspect was picked up at a petrol station in Jalan Tuaran at 7.25pm on Tuesday.

Initial investigations revealed the crimes were committed at the end of last year and early this month.

The suspect who used a machete when committing the crimes has been remanded until Sunday.

City police chief ACP M. Chandra said folowing the arrest, the police seized, among others, a multi-purpose vehicle and cell phone worth a total of about RM95,000, believed to be the suspect’s loot.

“We believe the man used a machete and behaved aggressively towards his victims,” he told a press conference at the police headquarters in Kota Kinabalu, Karamunsing here today.

He said the suspect, from Telipok Ria here, had been convicted for burglary in 2004 and wanted in connection with three house break-ins in Tawau, Serdang and Kundang in Selangor.

Chandra said that in Selangor, the suspect had allegedly committed various offences this year, including burglary, rape, attempted house break-in, possession of a deadly weapon and robbery.
