BATU PAHAT: A storm blew off the roofs of several houses in three housing areas here, recently.
Ten houses in Peserai, Taman Bukit Mutiara and Parit Raja suffered severe damage in the heavy downpour and strong winds.
Atilah Rahmat, 52, said she was at home with her two children when her house was hit.
“I was so scared. Luckily, no one was hurt. The strong winds badly damaged the roof of my house,” she said.
“The rainwater also damaged my electrical appliances.”
Batu Pahat district welfare department officer Adnan Mohd Yassin said most of the house owners had lodged reports about their losses.
“The department will assess the damage and channel aid to the affected families to facilitate repairs of their roofs,” he said.
