Ambulance driver held over rape

MERSING: Police here arrested an ambulance driver who allegedly raped a nurse in the vehicle earlier this month.

The 31-year old suspect allegedly committed the offence in the ambulance behind the quarters of the Mersing district hospital here at 12.45am last Thursday.

It is learnt the incident happened after the driver, a hospital assistant and the nurse, also aged 31, returned to the hospital in the ambulance. When they reached the hospital, the assistant disembarked and left for the emergency ward.

The nurse was alone with the driver when she started unloading equipment from the back of the ambulance. The driver offered to help.

Then, the nurse claimed she fell asleep in the ambulance.

When she woke up, she found that the ambulance was parked behind the quarters of the hospital. The door was locked. The nurse claimed the driver then raped her.

Mersing district police chief Deputy Superintendent Zulkepli Hashim said an investigation was under way.
