Frozen meat factory razed in fire

BUTTER WORTH: A frozen meat factory in Jalan Permatang Tinggi here suffered a loss of about RM10 million in a fire early today.

The blaze at 6.30am also destroyed seven motorcycles and damaged part of a Perodua Myvi belonging to the factory workers.

State Fire and Rescue Department operation assistant director Mohd Razam Taja Rahim said almost 80 percent of the factory’s structure was damaged by the fire.

He said certain equipment and frozen meat stored in the factory were also charred and destroyed.

“From the preliminary information obtained, it is believed that the fire started from the middle of the factory.

“However, since it spread so quickly the employees at the factory could not do anything but run out to save themselves,” he said.

A total of 52 firemen, assisted by volunteers, managed to put out the fire almost ten hours later at 4pm.
