KUALA LUMPUR: THE Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) will make improvements to two of its lines — Blue Line and Red Line of its GoKL City Bus service effective tomorrow.
The upgrading of the two lines is aimed to optimise the usage levels of its bus services.
Both the lines will begin and end at the Jalan Tun Razak bus terminal, which provides integration to other transportation services such as the Monorail, LRT (Ampang line) and express bus services.
SPAD will introduce four new stops for the Red Line that will begin from Jalan Tun Razak bus terminal to KL Sentral.
The new stops are at Jalan Tun Razak, Hospital Damai, Chow Kit Road and Grand Seasons Hotel. Two of its existing stops at Wisma Sime Darby and Maju Junction will no longer be used. As an alternative, passengers can board the buses from the Puteri Park Hotel and Pertama Kompleks stops.
Under the Blue Line, 10 new bus stops will be introduced. These new stops are located at Jalan Tun Razak, Bukit Bintang, Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL), Institut Penyelidikan Perubatan (IPP), Masjid Kampung Baru, Sekolah Khas Kampung Baru, Bukit Nanas, LRT Dang Wangi, Puteri Park Hotel, Chow Kit and the Grand Seasons Hotel.
As such, the following seven bus stops will no longer be operational — Uniasia Tower, Monorail Medan Tunku, Kompleks Campbell, Maju Junction, Wisma MPL, The Weld and Sogo.
As an alternative, passengers can seek the GoKL bus service at Medan MARA, Concorde Hotel, Wisma Boustead and Menara Hap Seng.
With the changes, the Red Line which connects the Jalan Tun Razak to KL Sentral terminal with the distance of 10.5km is now extended to 13km, an additional 21 stops.
This Red Line will take a 50-minute journey during peak hours and 40 minutes off peak.
The Blue Line, which connects the Jln Tun Razak and Bukit Bintang terminals with a distance of 9.2km, is now extended to 12km with 19 stops in between.
The Blue Line covers a 45-minute journey during peak hours and 35 minutes off peak.
