KL to host ISI regional statistics conference

KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur will be hosting the International Statistical Institute (ISI) Regional Statistics Conference on November 16-19 at the Sasana Kijang, Bank Negara.

Themed "Statistical Science for a Better Tomorrow", the conference is a platform for policy makers, statisticians and industry players to share their knowledge and insights on how statistical science can contribute to innovation and better decision making, Bank Negara said in a statement.

The conference is expected to gather 500 statisticians and practitioners from all fields and participants are able to participate in 60 discussion sessions with over 200 papers to be presented.

"The topics will cover statistical theory and methodology, application of statistics in economics, finance and banking, official statistics and data management, and statistical computing," it said.

The conference is jointly organised by the ISI and its South East Asia Regional Network; Bank Negara Malaysia; Department of Statistics; and the Malaysia Institute of Statistics.

There will also be a pre-conference seminar on November 15 by the Irving Fisher Committee on Central Bank Statistics of the Bank for International Settlements, and two short courses on November 15 and November 20 respectively.-- Bernama
