Penang Voluntary Patrol members assault case postponed

GEORGE TOWN: The case of three men allegedly involved in a brawl in a public area, including a father and his son who both are Penang Voluntary Patrol Unit (PPS) members, has been postponed to December 11.

It was fixed for mention today before magistrate L. Umma Devi, and the trio maintained their innocent plea.

In the 11pm incident on Aug 17, social activist Ong Eu Soon, 51, claimed he was assaulted by a group of helmet-wielding men donning the purple vests of the PPS in front of the Bandar Baru Air Itam market after a Hungry Ghost Festival dinner.

PPS members Lee Yew Kuen, 66, and Lee Chan Kwong, 35, later lodged police reports against Ong, claiming that he was the aggressor, not them.

Three of them were all charged under Section 160 of the Penal Code.

R.S.N Rayer represented Yew Kuen and Chang Kwong, while Ong was not represented.
