Man dies in fire after lorry explodes

KLANG: A man died after the lorry he was driving suddenly caught fire after an explosion in an incident at Jalan Sungai Buluh, here, today.

In the 3pm incident, the victim was driving alone and was believed to be heading to Meru.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Mohd Sani Harul said a sudden explosion caused a fire which burned the victim.

"The victim, whose clothes were burning opened the door and jumped out of the lorry onto the road.

"The abandoned lorry finally crashed in a ditch and continued burning before firemen arrived and put out the fire completely by 3.50pm," he said.

Mohd Sani said based on preliminary report, the fire was believed to be caused by a type of flammable item kept in the lorry.

"The victim, who suffered 30 per cent burns was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was sent to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) in Klang for post mortem.

"So far, his identity is unknown as we have yet to find his identification documents," he said, adding that the case has been handed over to the police for further action.
