Man electrocuted to death, another sustain serious injuries

KUALA LUMPUR: A man died after he was electrocuted while cleaning a fish pond in front of a house in Merbau Sempak, Sungai Buloh near here today.

The 10.30am incident also saw a local man in his 30s, who is the son of the house owner, seriously injured after he too was electrocuted while trying to save the Indonesian labourer.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Zone 1 (Shah Alam) chief Ahmad Zaidi Safuan said the incident happened when the deceased, who was in his 50s, had just started the cleaning works.

"The victim was electrocuted as soon as he touched the pond's water.

"Seeing this, the second victim rushed to the deceased's aid. He used a stick to unplug the pond's electrical water pump," he told the New Straits Times today.

However, the labourer could not be saved and was pronounced dead by paramedics who arrived soon after.

The second victim was injured as he had also touched the pond's water while the electric current was still running.

Ahmad Zaidi said the victim's body was sent to the Sungai Buloh Hospital here, while the second victim was also rushed to the same hospital where he received treatment.
