Harimau Malaya supporters charged

SHAH ALAM: Five 'Harimau Malaya' supporters detained in connection with football hooliganism were jointly charged at the magistrate's court here today.

Amirul Akmal Nooradzhar, 22, Mohd Aminuddin Hamdan, 34, his brother, Noor Hadi Hamdan, 29, Zulhelmy Akmal Zainol Abidin, 28, and Muhammad Naquiyuddin Sallehuddin, 19,

were among 15 allegedly involved in a brawl incident two weeks ago at the AFF Suzuki Cup semi-final match where Malaysia lost to Vietnam.

The accused, a cargo division employee at the Senai, Johor Airport, a satay seller, a Felda settler helper, a despatch rider and a polytechnic student in Nilai, Negri Sembilan, pleaded not guilty to a riot charge before magistrate Ellyana Razali.

They were alleged with committing the offence at the compound of Quadrant 'A' of the Shah Alam stadium in Section 13 here at about 9.50pm on Dec 7.

Deputy public prosecutor Rustam Sanip proposed for a RM8,000 bail to be imposed on all the accused.

In pleading for a lower bail, their lawyers said all accused had surrendered themselves to the police after their photos had been released in mass media two days after the incident.

"They are taking responsibility even though they are aware of the risks," the lawyers said, adding that their clients’ family members could not afford to pay a high amount of bail.

Ellyana granted RM2,800 bail with a surety for each accused and ordered for them to report to the police station each month.

She also ordered for the accused to surrender their passports to the court until the disposal of the case.

Amirul Akmal and Muhammad Naquiyuddin were represented by counsel Muhammad Hidhir Mustapa while the others were represented by Amir Khusyairi Mohamad Tanusi and M.

Hafiz Zainol.

Naquiyudin who missed his first day to report for his practical because of the case and Aminuddin, father of two children were already in tears before they were called to face their

charge.

It was reported that the incident which took place two weeks ago witnessed Malaysian fans hurling objects at the visiting team's supporters.

Following the incident, which happened shortly before the final whistle, a Vietnamese supporter was slightly injured after being attacked by the group of local fans.
