Penang Gerakan called on Guan Eng to take up debate challenge by Pas sec-gen

GEORGE TOWN: Penang Gerakan has called on DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng to take up the challenge by Pas secretary-general Mustafa Ali to debate on the implementation of hudud and local government elections.

Its secretary Oh Tong Keong, in a press statement, said Lim should not be afraid of Pas and instead take the bull by its horns.

"Don't be intimidated or listen to DAP's organising secretary Anthony Loke to resolve the matter in Pakatan Rakyat's leadership council, as a face-saving manoeuvre.

"Doing so would only deny an opportunity for Lim to prove that he was speaking the truth," he said, adding that it was also not to deny the people’s right to information on the two issues.

Oh expressed doubt that the leadership council would meet anytime soon to resolve both matters, with the coalition leaders having publicly admitted they have not met for the past six months.

"There would be no outcome, in my opinion, even if the top leaders decided to meet. Who is going to admit that Lim or Mustafa has lied?" he queried.

Oh said Lim should reveal whatever consensus the coalition has reached on the two issues.

“Instead of sweeping the problems under the carpet, Lim should be transparent and allow the rakyat’s right to information,” Oh said.

He also expressed regret over how DAP has been repeatedly taking humiliations from Pas for the past few years.

Pas and DAP's relations have hit a new low in recent times, with Mustafa calling Lim foul-mouthed for calling Pas leaders dishonest, in the latest on the local government election furore.

He had said Lim should not have lied to imply that Pas had agreed to the election, as reported in a news portal recently.

Lim was reported to have said that he had consulted Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and Mustafa over the matter, before pushing for the implementation of the "third vote" at court in 2012.
