UPDATED: 5-year-old kidnapped victim rescued; mastermind, 5 others remanded for a week

KLANG: The six suspects nabbed this morning for kidnapping a five-year-old boy will be remanded for a week, starting from today.

Klang Selatan police chief Assistant Commissioner Kamarul Zaman Mamat said the suspects were remanded starting from today to assist investigation.

He said the victim, who was rescued at about 4am today was unharmed.

"He is currently undergoing thorough checkup at a hospital but he was not injured," he said, declining to reveal which hospital the victim was sent to.

It was learnt that the victim was kidnapped last Thursday.

"Three suspects had barged into the house, grabbed the child and an iPhone before fleeing from the scene," a source close to the investigation said.

It is learnt that the kidnappers had demanded for a RM1 million ransom from the boy's family.

Bukit Aman Special Task Force on Organised Crime (Stafoc) and Selangor Criminal Investigation (CID) Department nabbed the six suspects including its mastermind in Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan this morning.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar congratulated the teams through his Twitter postings.

“Syabas STAFFOC Dan JSJ S'gor @PDRMsia pagi ini b'jaya selamat kanak2 5 thn yg colek di S'gor, dikurung di PDickson. 5 pencolek di tangkap. (Congratulations to Stafoc and Selangor CID for rescuing a five-year-old who was kidnapped in Selangor and detained in Port Dickson. Five kidnappers nabbed),” he posted.

Following the tweet, Khalid posted another congratulatory remark to the police team an hour later for successfully arrested the mastermind of the kidnap case.

“Tahniah STAFFOC dan JSJ S'gor lagi kerana b'jaya tangkap Kepala Penculik sebentar tadi di Subang Permai, jadikan 6 tangkapan dlm kis ini. (Congratulations Stafoc and Selangor CID for successfully arresting the mastermind of the kidnap case, rounding it up to six arrest in this case).”

A full press conference on the case is expected to be held by Selangor Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Mohd Adnan Abdullah at 3pm today.
