8 arrested, drugs worth RM420k seized

IPOH: Police arrested eight men and seized various types of drugs weighing 8.351 kg, worth RM420,000, in two raids around Ipoh last Friday, Perak Police chief Datuk Osman Salleh said today.

He said a team of police officers and personnel from the Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department, in collaboration with the Bukit Aman Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (Sting) and Perak Crime Investigation Department, conducted the raids after a tip-off and surveillance.

“The first raid was made at 3pm on a residential premises in Bandar Lahat Mines near here. Three men were arrested and 7.07 kg of heroin and 709 grams of syabu as well as different types of equipment used for packing heroin were seized.

“In another raid, the police team stormed a storeroom at a club here at 4.30pm and detained a man and seized various types of equipment used to process drugs,” he told a press conference at the Perak Police headquarters here.

Osman said that following the raids, police arrested four men around Ipoh, believed to be involved in drug trafficking and seized 566 grams of heroin from them.

Police confiscated six vehicles, including a Toyota Wish, a BMW and a Proton Perdana, a ring worth RM500,000 and cash totalling RM25,940, he said.

“All the suspects tested negative for drugs and had no previous criminal records. Initial investigation found that the syndicate had been operating for the past two months and the drugs were sold to drug addicts from other states,” he said.

Osman said all the suspects, aged between 25 and 49, were being remanded until Friday.--BERNAMA
