Helping others battle cancer

JOHOR BARU: It was his fight against liver cancer that drove Tunku Laksamana Johor Tunku Abdul Jalil to establish the Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation.

For Tunku Abdul Jalil, the foundation would provide cancer patients with financial assistance and facilities so that they would have access to the necessary treatments.

He said it had been his dream to set up a foundation to help cancer patients in the country and now, it has become a reality.

“It is my hope that cancer patients will be cured. I have gone through what they are going through, and I know how hard it is to live with cancer.

“The foundation will help the patients financially. However, the establishment of the foundation will take some time.

“There is not much that I can say about it for now, as a lot of the details are still at the planning stage.”

He was speaking at a press conference with Media Prima at his residence near Horizon Hill here, yesterday.

In recounting his experience in dealing with liver cancer, Tunku Abdul Jalil said it was in June that he first felt a pain in his right hand, and by December, he was diagnosed with cancer.

“Although I had a successful liver transplant, I still have to undergo weekly treatments in Singapore and a full body scan every fortnight.

“There is still pain from the surgery and I am on a special diet as I have been advised against taking raw or uncooked food,” said Tunku Abdul Jalil.

He advised the public to consult their doctors and go for medical screenings to detect early signs of diseases and illnesses so that they would receive prompt treatment.
