Elderly couple injured in robbery attempt

SEREMBAN: An elderly couple were seriously injured in a robbery attempt, slashed in front of their home at Taman Bukit Galena here today.

District Deputy Police Chief Superintendent Abdul Rahim Daud said in the 8.40am incident, the couple were carrying out their daily chores when two strangers on a motorcycle tried to snatch the female victim's chain.

"The victim, who opened the gates to water plants, was threatened with a parang by one of the suspects in an attempt to snatch her gold chain," he said.

The victim fought back, resulting in a tussle and the suspect pushed the victim to the ground.

"Her husband tried to help but he was slashed in the head," he added.

The suspects fled the scene before family members and neighbours alerted the police.

Both victims in their 50s and 60s were being treated at Hospital Tuanku Jaafar (HTJ) here.

It was understood that four separate robberies took place in Taman Bukit Kristal, Taman Bukit Galena, Seremban 3 and Desa Indah Putra, Nilai within an hour.

In another incident at Taman Bukit Kristal, a 49-year-old woman who was leaving her home accompanied by a family member was also believed to be approached by the same suspects.

The woman was also threatened with a parang and handed over cash, a hand phone and jewellery amounting to over RM2,000.

In Jalan Seremban 3, an army personnel and his wife who were outside their home were believed to have been approached by the same suspects, but were lucky enough to be unhurt.

Meanwhile, Nilai district chief police Superintendent Abdullah Roning said the police also recorded a robbery case involving a trader at Jalan Indah 5, Desa Indah Putra, Nilai.

He said in the 9am incident, the victim was approached by two men on a motorcycle who held a parang and took a tablet as well as RM200 in cash.

"We are investigating the cases," he said.
