Police arrest 2 TMI employees

KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested two more executives of The Malaysian Insider under the Sedition Act over the portal's recent hudud report.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar confirmed the arrests through his Twitter account earlier today.

"@PDRMsia sahkan jam 1100 pagi ini telah tahan 2 org lagi kakitangan TMI utk bantu siasatan. Tiada toleransi kpd sebarang aktiviti menghasut."

Roughly translated as -Police confirmed the arrest of two more TMI staff to facilitate investigation at 11am today. No tolerance to any seditious activities.

However, the police have yet to issue official statement on the identities of the two.

The portal earlier today reported that the latest arrests involved their chief executive Jahabar Sadiq and The Edge publisher Ho Kay Tat.

With the arrests of Jahabar and Ho, police have arrested a total of five TMI executives since yesterday.

The other three were TMI's managing editor Lionel Morais, Bahasa section editor Amin Shah Iskandar and Zulkifli Sulong (features and analysis editor).

"Both were arrested this morning when they turned up at the Dang Wangi police station for their statements to be taken.

"Police said they would apply for a remand order for the duo and three other The Malaysian Insider editors arrested last night," said the portal's report.
